REMEMBER THE CHALLENGE PROGRAM!

(January 23, 2008) . . .Here is a reminder to all students of the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC). Have you forgotten about the Challenge Program?  Is the allure of $250.00 a faint memory?  Have you been giving you’re “all” in school?

Don’t worry, there’s still time! From academics to community service, the Challenge Program hasn’t selected winners yet. All ICTC students have to the end of the school year to improve grades or help with community activities.  Remember, the Challenge Program rewards students’ achievements with money.

The four categories in which students can excel include academic achievement, most improved grades, community service, and attendance. Four students from each of the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades will win the prizes of $250.00.

The four categories of awards are extremely important to employers, colleges, and for self-improvement. The Challenge Program motivates young people to do their best while attending high school by offering motivating rewards. However, attending school is the students’ main job at this time so why not reward students for extraordinary achievements, just as they do in business?

Don’t forget about the Challenge Program!  Students can still win a prize for highest grade average, most improved grades, attendance, and community service!

Speaking of community service and student involvement, the ICTC Student Government Association (SGA) is actively involved with several projects.  First, there is exciting news for the seniors since the senior T-shirts have been designed and are awaiting final approval!  SGA has also been working on a student assembly in February featuring a nationally recognized motivational speaker.

We can’t forget about the Love Basket that SGA sponsors every year. This year’s food drive is scheduled for March 10th through the 14th. This is a friendly competition between the ICTC’s thirteen program areas to win a prize for the most donated food items.  SGA changed the timing of this event so they wouldn’t be competing with other schools’ food drives during the holiday season. SGA also was coordinating last month’s Penny Wars at that time as well.

Speaking of Penny Wars, last month’s competition was a huge success! “The Penny Wars give the students the opportunity to raise money for those in need and have fun at the same time,” stated Morgan Gardner, Secretary for SGA. This year the ICTC students and faculty were able to raise more than $3,000 for the Teddy Bear Fund Drive. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this fun and competitive fund raising effort!
