ICTC HOSTS FINANCIAL PLANNING NIGHT

(October 26, 2007) . . .It’s never too early to plan for your future! That’s why the Indiana County Technology Center invites everyone to join us on November 1, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., for “The Next Step.” “The Next Step” is a financial planning night for parents and students, and an opportunity to discover programs designed to meet the financial obligations for post-secondary education. During this evening’s program three areas will be presented: Financial Aid, Searching for Scholarships, and Dual Enrollment.

Parents are always wondering what they can do to help their children get into college. “The Next Step” provides parents and students with information that is specifically focused on the opportunities to help defray post-secondary education costs and help reach every student’s goal to further their education.

Financial Aid is an important factor for many families. Many students are not aware that they may be eligible for various sources of aid to help defray the high cost of post-secondary school. This program will focus on the sources of financial aid and different types like loans, grants, and The Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Participants will be provided with websites and other information that will tap into various funding sources. Mr. Gary Means, of Westmoreland County Community College will present information on Federal and State financial aid programs.

Another program is “Searching for Scholarships” Presented by Mrs. Kelly Fox, ICTC School Counselor, this session will provide scholarship tips! Participants will be introduced to the largest and most popular student resource website. Find out how easy it can be to apply for scholarships which reduce the costs of higher education.

Dual Enrollment is the third topic that will be discussed. The Indiana County Technology Center and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College have teamed up to provide students with the opportunity to receive college credit while attending ICTC classes. Mrs. Dianne Weigle, Director of Community Outreach for PA Highlands Community College will present this session. This program is called dual enrollment because students are enrolled at both ICTC and PA Highlands Community College. Specific classes at ICTC count as credit towards a degree at Penn Highlands Community College, or may be transferred to other community colleges and universities. Dual enrollment provides advantages of reduced cost per credit and of having a college transcript. ICTC students enrolled in the following programs are eligible for dual enrollment: Culinary Arts, Computer Systems Technology, Digital Media Technology, Graphics Electronic Media, Health Occupations Technology, and Welding Technology.

“The Next Step” is an informative evening to help students with the transition to post secondary education. With information, resources, and speakers to help, parents and students will find this an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the financial aid system for post-secondary education. “The Next Step” is free to everyone. Please call 724-349-6700, ext. 100 for more information. We hope to see you there!
