ICTC STUDENTS COMPETE IN REGIONAL COMPUTER FAIR
(March 14, 2008) . . . The annual Pennsylvania Computer Fair is a chance for students in ninth through twelfth grades to demonstrate and showcase their creative skills on the computer. This competition starts at a regional level with the winners moving on to the state level. The regional competition was held at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Hadley Union Building on March 10 th.
Not only does this day include a competition and a chance to learn new concepts by way of demonstrations and workshops, but also exposes students to peer review. First, second, and third places winners receive a prize, the amount chosen by the individual district. The first place winner in each category proceeds to the State level of competition later this year.
There are eight categories but entrants from the Indiana County Technology Center’s Graphics and Electronic Design and Digital Media Technology programs usually focus on one of the following: Logo, Webpage Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia Presentations, Digital Video, and Text-based Desktop Publishing. A representative student project in each of the eight categories was chosen to represent ICTC. There is a judging round to bring down the number of entrants from ICTC. This is a critical step, ensuring that only the best of the best represent the ICTC.
Entrants from the ICTC have been working for a long time on their projects. This is their time to shine and showcase their hard work and effort. “I am very proud of my project and am excited to see what others think of it.” said Alyssa Deabenderfer, Indiana senior and a student enrolled in ICTC’s Graphic and Electronic Design program. This kind of enthusiasm is what makes the Pennsylvania Computer Fair so interesting. People from all over the state come to compete and through the process, gain a further sense of fellowship among their peers. Projects in the Computer Fair demonstrate the wide range of creative talents through an electronic output.
Students who pass this round, have the chance to go on to the state level and compete for the first place prize of $500, a second of $250, a third of $100, or an honorable mention for $25. The awards have been made and winners will be announced in the future. For more information on the Pennsylvania Computer Fair go to pacomputerfair.org.
