TECH SHOW '08 IS BEST YET!
(April 25, 2008) . . . When was the last time you had a close look at a National Guard helicopter, or tried your skill on a climbing wall? Or, maybe check out the latest vehicles and motorcycles? Or, how about watching the artistry of latte art and ice carvings while nibbling on chocolate-covered strawberries? All this with door prizes and a grand prize giveaway can be seen next week, right here at the Indiana County Technology Center!
Mark your calendars for April 30, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for the Indiana County Technology Center’s (ICTC), TECH SHOW ’08, where more than twenty-five local businesses and educational institutions meet up with the ICTC’s programs to showcase the latest and greatest in services and specialties!
The fourth annual Tech Show is designed for everyone to enjoy and have fun while learning about the career programs and adult education offerings at the ICTC. ICTC’s student ambassadors, representing all thirteen program areas will usher visitors to the program areas. All programs will be open for tours, student exhibits, as well as complementary trade specialists.
Mr. James Thimons, ICTC principal, explains, “The goal of the Tech Show is to bring the parents and community in to see our exciting program areas, and also an opportunity for our business partners to showcase their most current products.”
The ICTC Tech Show includes a “showcase exhibition” located in the front entrance with food vendors, informational booths and the grand prize giveaway and registration area. Food and refreshments will be provided by the Blairsville, Homer-Center, Indiana, and Penns Manor Band Boosters.
Providing displays on post-secondary education programs are Indiana County Community College Center of Westmoreland County Community College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Cambria-Rowe Business College, ICTC School of Practical Nursing, Indiana Cosmetology Academy, and the National Guard. Guests will also find MouseWrest, Rent-A-Center, First Commonwealth Bank, PNC Bank, and Renda Broadcasting sharing lobby space.
Guests will be able to check out the variety of high-tech motorcycles with additional information provided by the ICTC adult education Motorcycle Safety Program. Powerhouse Performance will show off their 1948 Fiat Topolino altered drag race car, while visitors can get a close look at a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse and 2009 Pontiac Vibe from Colonial Motors and look over the latest cars from McGregor Motors and Luther Ford. Nightime Lighting and Design’s display will demonstrate how to enhance your motorcycle or car’s overall appearance with the addition of lights and colors. Desiderato Performance will also be participating.
Visitors of the Graphics and Electronic Media (GEM) program will be treated to note pads and stickers during digital printing demonstrations, and displays from Buerger Office Systems and GEM students. GEM students are currently working with downtown Indiana creating signs and banners to promote the renaissance project.
“The Tech Show will demonstrate how culinary arts interacts with our community on a daily basis,” says Chef Bob Piccirillo, culinary arts instructor. Student ice-carvers from Indiana University of Pennsylvania will be outside the entrance, at the flag pole. Inside, guests will be treated to a chocolate fountain with strawberries, with samples available. Several celebrity chefs will be demonstrating in ICTC’s kitchen. Visitors won’t want to miss Caffe Amadeus Roast & Brew, while they show off their skill in latte art. In addition, if you want to add to your cooking and baking collection, The Pampered Chef and The Kitchen Collection will offer the best in cookware.
The cosmetology program will provide hand spa treatments and spray tanning while offering demonstrations on hairstyles and makeup. Health Occupations will host representatives from Hoff Chiropractic Clinic, Indiana Regional Medical Center, and Indiana Chiropractic. Guests will be able to get healthy lifestyle advice and have blood pressure readings and fat analysis readings.
Computer Systems Technology program area will host the computer network administrator from the Indiana Gazette who will talk about the role of information technology in newspaper publishing. In addition, DeVry University and Sassafras Forge will participate.
ICTC’s construction cluster will offer displays and building advice from Gorell Windows and Doors and Lezzer Lumber. You might get a sneak peek at the streetscape for the upcoming food show’s “Potluck Junction.” Also, Corte Masonry, Leonardo Masonry, and Marion Center Supply will be on hand.
Guests visiting the Machining Technology program will be treated to displays from Allegheny Educational Systems, DSM Machinery/HAAS Factory Outlet, Hoff Machining, and Kimray Sales & Service.
The students attending ICTC are proud of their career education commitment and are urging guests to attend the Tech Show through special invitations that contain the students’ names. These invitations will be collected in the lobby with one drawn at the close of the event for a door prize. All invitations will be tabulated and the student in each program area with highest number of collected invitations will be awarded a prize.
