The Kiwanis Club Outstanding Senior of the Month award is based upon the student's career goal and their educational planning. Important consideration is given to their participation in the leadership activities and their combined technical and academic achievement at both the ICTC and their high school.

Derek Labant, a senior in the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) Machining Technology program, received the Kiwanis Club Outstanding Senior of the Month for January. Derek is the son of Mark and Amy Labant of Indiana. He attends Indiana Senior High School, where he has participated on the Swim Team, the Chess Club, Football, Wrestling, and Key Club.
Derek is employed part time as a Life Guard at the Indiana County YMCA and at Mack Park Pool. He is certified as a Life Guard and CPR/AED Certified for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross. He is also OSHA Certified in General Industry Safety and Health through training and testing at the ICTC. Derek’s future plans following graduation include joining the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and attending Westmoreland County Community College’s Machining Technology program with the ultimate goal of working in CNC machining/manufacturing of heavy duty diesel engines and equipment. |

Brooke Brenner, a senior in the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) Culinary Arts program, received the Kiwanis Club Outstanding Senior of the Month for December. Brooke is the daughter of Jack Brenner and Jennifer Scalise, and resides in Marion Center. Brooke attends Marion Center High School, where she has been a Cheerleader since 2005; a Student Council member since 2003; a member of the Creative Writing Club since 2009; a member of the Swim Team since 2008; a Water Safety Instructor since 2008; and a Lifeguard since 2009. At the ICTC, Brooke has served as Head Delegate, Treasurer, and President of Skills USA; Student Government Association member since 2008; Interact member in 2007; President of the National Technical Honor Society in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011; and a Student Presenter at the Penn State Learning Conference in 2007-2008 and 2010-2011. She also received a Business Achievement Award from Dubois Business College in 2010. In addition to her contributions to multiple academic and volunteer organizations, Brooke is employed part-time at Chestnut Ridge Resort via the ICTC Cooperative Education program. Following high school graduation, Brooke plans to attend Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) majoring in Culinary Arts, followed by an internship at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. She eventually wants to own and manager her own restaurant. |

Kimberly Palesch, a senior in the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) Health Occupations Technology program, received the Kiwanis Club Outstanding Senior of the Month for November. Kimberly is the daughter of Robert and Marie Palesch of Homer City, and attends United High School. Kimberly is a member of Interact since 2008, and has devoted time for various community service activities through her involvement in this organization. During her training in Health Occupations Technology at the ICTC, Kimberly has attained certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Nurse Assistant. She currently works part-time as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) at Lynn Haven Personal Care. Following graduation, Kimberly plans to attend college to become a Histologist at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital. |

Ashley Brewer, a senior in the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) Health Occupations Technology program, received the Kiwanis Club Outstanding Senior of the Month for October. Ashley is the daughter of Dave and Paula Brewer of Indiana, and she attends Marion Center High School. Ashley is president of her Health Occupations Technology class, a member of the Skills USA Community Service Committee, and Chairperson of the Interact Club at the ICTC. At Marion Center High School, she has participated in the Remembering Adam and the Candy Striper activities. Ashley is currently employed at BiLo, and has also worked at the Marion Center Speedway for four years and also as a childcare provider. She is certified as a Nurse Aide (CNA), in CPR and First Aid. Ashley has already been accepted as a student at Mount Aloysius College where she will continue her education with the goal of becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant. |

Kyle Fabin, a senior in the Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) Welding Technology Program, received the Kiwanis Club Outstanding Senior of the Month for September. Kyle is the son of Doug and Sue Fabin, and resides in Indiana. Kyle attends Homer Center High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society. Kyle is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society at the ICTC and the American Welding Society (AWS). Kyle is currently employed part-time as a Welding and Fabrication Apprentice at Electro-Mec through the ICTC Cooperative Education Program. He also helps out on the family farm, Fabin Dairy and Grain Farm. Following high school graduation, Kyle plans to continue his technical education in the welding field.
