ICTC STUDENTS EARN COLLEGE CREDITS
(January 23, 2009)...The Indiana County Technology Center is proud to connect with Pennsylvania Highlands Community College to offer dual enrollment opportunities for our students. Dual Enrollment is a partnership with Pennsylvania Highlands Community College which enables ICTC students to take college courses and receive a college transcript with credits that are transferrable to any institution that accepts Pennsylvania Highlands Community College credits.
Students in Computer Systems Technology, Culinary Arts, Digital Media Technology, Graphics and Electronic Media, Health Occupations Technology, Machining Technology and Welding Technology are able to enroll at a discount rate of $30.00 per credit and complete the coursework during their time at ICTC.
The Indiana County Technology Center’s dual enrollment program has grown in its two years of operation, to include eighteen students in seven program areas including, seniors, Andrew Eyler, Culinary Arts; Shawnee Hess, Graphics & Electronic Media, Mark Himes, Welding Technology, all from Marion Center; Indiana seniors, Adam Peterson and Justin Williams, Welding Technology, and Matthew Simpson, Machining Technology. Haley Lichtenfels, Graphics & Electronic Media, United; Hunter Trausi, Digital Media Technology, Homer Center; and Autumn Smith, Culinary Arts, Saltsburg. Carmella Franco, Computer Systems Technology, a junior from Blairsville; and sophomores, and Thomas Kalgren, Homer Center; Travis Lauffer, Indiana; Stephen Sleppy, Penns Manor and Tyler Swasy, Blairsville all enrolled in Computer Systems Technology.
An additional benefit, for dual enrollment students, is that the student has completed challenging, college level coursework in their major prior to attending the post secondary institution. This will save the student time and money. At this time the ICTC is working with other post-secondary institutions to expand the dual enrollment opportunities available to students.
Along with dual enrollment opportunities, the ICTC also has articulation agreements with several post-secondary institutions in Pennsylvania. Students can take advantage of articulated credits which are applied to the length of time they attend post-secondary schooling. At this time all thirteen program areas can take advantage of this at the following locations, Community College of Allegheny County, Douglas Education Center, Indiana Cosmetology Academy, IUP Academy of Culinary Arts, Penn College, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, University of Northwestern Ohio, and Westmoreland County Community College.
