ICTC BAILS PRINCIPAL OUT OF JAIL

(October 17, 2008)... On October 2, 2008 Mr. Jim Thimons, ICTC Principal was “Locked Up” for being heavily armed with kindness and it was up to the student body of the Indiana County Technology Center to bail him out of jail.

Okay so maybe Mr. Thimons wasn’t really sitting behind bars but he was “locked up” for Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). “Each year local business and community leaders agree to be ‘arrested’ for having a ‘big heart’. This unique community wide event raises funds for Jerry’s kid. The MDA is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to conquering more than 40 diseases that affect a million Americans of all ages”. While being “locked up”, business and community leaders make phone calls to everyone they know asking them to donate money towards MDA. When they raise enough money to “post bail” they are released from jail. Fortunately for them jail isn’t a small cell with metal bars to look out of. Residents of Indiana County were taken to the Holiday Inn this year to await their “bail money”.

Luckily for Mr. Thimons he had the help of the ICTC student body to bail him out of jail. The Student Government Association held a Chinese Auction between September 22 nd and October 1 st. Items for the auction were donated by the thirteen program areas of the ICTC. Items consisted of things such as, a multimedia package, a vinyl package, free oil change, and a car detailing donated by Digital Media Technology, Graphics and Electronic Media, Auto Technology and Collision Repair Technology respectively. Culinary Arts also helped raise money by making and selling chocolate gobs and pizza rolls to the student body. At the end of the week the ICTC was proud to donate $800 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

I asked Mr. Thimons how he felt about the dedication of the ICTC students to raise this money and he responded by saying, “I am very proud of the ICTC students and staff for their commitment to community service, as well as, their compassion for individuals who may be less fortunate than they are. The money the ICTC raised for the MDA is just one example of the enormous character that our students and staff possess. Our students and staff constantly remind me that there is much more to education than academics and tests. The human skills and soft skills that our instructors instill in the students may be more valuable to the students in their adult lives than any task that they learn. Our slogan ‘educating for a competitive edge’ does not just mean being competitive in the workplace. It means preparing to be a productive member of society and a family.”

The Indiana County Technology Center would like to remind the public that the ICTC restaurant will be open to the public on October 21 st.
