ICTC SERVES THE COMMUNITY
(December 19, 2008)... With the holidays coming near, the students at the Indiana County Technology Center are busy spreading holiday cheer. It is the most popular time for being generous and so the students are occupied with providing community services not only in their individual program areas but through the Student Government Association (SGA) and Interact (Rotary).
An important club at the ICTC when it comes to community service is the Interact (Rotary) Program, under the leadership of Cathy Jones, Mathematics Instructor. The student members of Interact are volunteering with the Salvation Army Kettle Drive. The students will be helping for a total of twenty hours. But not only does Interact help during the holiday season, they help out people all year round.
For instance the students assisted the Indiana Rotary with the dictionary distribution project. This particular project was designed to provide every third grade student in Indiana County with a dictionary.
Other projects that the Interact members are preparing to engage in is the District Governor’s Luncheon, the Relay for Life, the AMBA blood analysis testing, and fundraising which will go towards the community.
The ICTC Health Occupations Technology students have been working on raising money to be donated to the American Cancer Society by making bracelets. The multi-colored, beaded bracelets have a color to represent each form of cancer. Health Occupations are able to donate $250.00 to the American Cancer Society. In Addition, on Monday, December 15 the students in Health Occupations sponsored a “holiday” blood drive to help out the many people in need.
The Student Government Association (SGA), under the guidance of Robert Piccirillo, Culinary Arts Instructor, put a new twist on raising money for Children’s Hospital Teddy Bear Fund Drive this year. The SGA sold snacks every Friday in November and December to the ICTC students. All profits raised will go to the Teddy Bear Fund Drive.
For all their tireless dedication to school, work, and community the students at the ICTC are having a holiday celebration on Friday, December 19. The students will have the opportunity to enjoy pizza and a beverage. This event for the students is provided by the SGA.
Thanks to the students attending the ICTC the world is a happier place and we would like to applaud not only them but the faculty advisers who have made all this possible. Happy Holidays!
