ICTC STUDENT DISPLAYS TALENT IN HERSHEY

(February 27, 2009)...  “Educating for a competitive edge”, is the motto at the Indiana County Technology Center.  Students are encouraged on a daily basis to be creative and productive and to strive to achieve greatness.  So when the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference (PETE&C) invited the ICTC Graphics & Electronic Media to submit entries for their 2009 pin contest, students were encouraged to participate.  There were nearly 200 entries for this year’s contest throughout Pennsylvania.  Amanda Hartman, a junior from Indiana Senior High School who is enrolled in the Graphics & Electronic Media program was selected by the PETE&C Board of Managers as one of the six finalists.  Her entry was included in the voting during the PETE&C conference this month.

The Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo and Conference (PETE&C) is a statewide event that provides quality programs focused on technology in education. Each year, hundreds of exhibitors showcase their latest technology products and services to the vast audience of teachers, administrators, technology directors, school board members and others.  This year the conference was held February 8-11 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. 

As a finalist, Amanda was recognized on stage at the Closing General Session on February 11.  Joining Amanda were her mother, Tammy Hartman, Carol Fry, ICTC Director and Jim Thimons, ICTC Principal.  When I asked Amanda how she felt about being one of the six finalists, she replied, “When I was chosen as one of the six finalists for the PETE&C contest, I was honored.  To be a finalist out of almost two hundred logo entries was exciting.  I never thought my logo would have been chosen.  I couldn’t have done it without my instructor, Mr. Krecota and everything he has taught me.
