NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY

(December 4,, 2009)...  The Indiana County Technology Center has many clubs for their students to join including: Skills USA, Interact and PA Builders Association.  This year the ICTC has added the National Technical Honor Society, America’s highest award for excellence in career and technical education.
National Technical Honor Society honors student achievement and leadership, promotes educational excellence and enhances career opportunities.  The vision of the National Technical Honor Society is to be a leader in providing recognition for excellence in career and technical education and creating significant occupational opportunities for America’s top workforce education students.

I recently sat down with the advisor for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), Erin Eisenman.  Ms. Eisenman explained that NTHS provides recognition to students that have high academic and technical achievements.  Students are selected to be a part of NTHS must maintain a 94% or higher GPA at the ICTC and their sending school district, they must have a teacher recommendation, possess excellent personal characteristics and be active in some other extracurricular activity besides NTHS.  Some of the benefits to the students involved in NTHS are scholarship opportunities and community service activities.

The following students were invited to become members of the National Technical Honor Society.  Zachary Barnett, Masonry, Homer Center; Brooke Brenner, Culinary Arts, Marion Center; Megan Empfield, Digital Media Technology, Indiana; Billie Jo Fairman, Electrical Occupations, Marion Center; Kelly Haase, Digital Media Technology, Marion Center; Erin Kirsch, Cosmetology, Penns Manor; Allison Mintmier, Auto Technology, Indiana; Autumn Patterson, Digital Media Technology, Marion Center; Nolan Stiles, Collision Repair Technology, Marion Center; Lance Styers, Graphics & Electronic Media, Homer Center; and Shawn Yutzey, Digital Media Technology, United.

The ICTC chapter of NTHS will be sponsoring a Santa’s Adventure for the Children of the Indiana County Head Start on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at the ICTC. The students have planned craft activities, pictures with Santa, story-telling and refreshments for the children and their parents.  These students will participate in a formal induction ceremony during the spring semester.
