ICTC WELCOMES SHADOW STUDENTS
(February 5, 2010)... “Job Shadow is an academically motivating activity designed to give kids the unique opportunity of an up-close look at the world of work and provide the answer to the commonly asked question, ‘Why do I have to learn this?’ Beginning with a nationwide kickoff on February 2, and continuing throughout the school year, students across America will “shadow” workplace mentors as they go through a normal day on the job. The program invites students to see firsthand how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace. Job Shadow is led by the National Job Shadow Coalition.”
The Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) welcomed three students into their program areas on February 2; Caleb Krecota, Shelly Reefer and Zack Zombotti. The three are fifth grade students at McCreery Middle School. Caleb shadowed in the Digital Media Technology and Graphics and Electronic Media programs; Shelly shadowed in Cosmetology and Zack shadowed in Graphics and Electronic Media and Carpentry.
I asked Zack how he liked his shadowing experience at the ICTC and he replied, “It was cool. I enjoyed making vinyl graphics in Graphics & Electronic Media and seeing all the different projects that the Carpentry students are working on, including the building of a modular home.
