NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY HOLDS CEREMONY
(December 3, 2010)...The Indiana County Technology Center (ICTC) held a special induction ceremony on Thursday, November 4, 2010 for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). NTHS is supervised by Erin Eisenman. The National Technical Honor Society provides recognition to students that have high academic and technical achievements. Students that are selected to be a part of NTHS must maintain a 94% or higher GPA at the ICTC and their sending school district, they must have a teacher recommendation, possess excellent personal characteristics and be active in some other extracurricular activity besides NTHS. Some of the benefits to the students involved in NTHS are scholarship opportunities, leadership roles and community service activities.
The National Technical Honor Society honors student achievement and leadership, promotes educational excellence and enhances career opportunities. The vision of the National Technical Honor Society is to be a leader in providing recognition for excellence in career and technical education and creating significant occupational opportunities for America’s top workforce education students.
The following students were invited to become members of the National Technical Honor Society. Amy Ashbaugh, Health Occupations Technology; Kyle Citeroni, Computer Systems Technology; Kyle Fabin, Welding Technology; Dennis Goss, Collision Repair Technology; Jenna Letham, Digital Media Technology; Lori Mason, Health Occupations Technology; Hannah Nehrig, Graphics and Electronic Media; Daniel Rodkey, Machining Technology; Tyler Swasy, Computer Systems Technology; Brier Thompson, Auto Technology; and Tiffany Weston, Graphics and Electronic Media.
Each new member received a certificate, membership card, pin and a tassel. Every new and existing member had a special part to play in the induction ceremony, from reciting the pledge to lighting a candle to represent the beliefs of the NTHS. Besides honoring the new inductees, the officers for the 2010-2011 school year were also inducted. The officers are, AM President, Kelly Haase; PM Presidents, Brooke Brenner and Megan Empfield; Vice President, Billie Jo Fairman; Secretary, Autumn Patterson; and Treasurer, Zachary Barnett.
During the ceremony there was a special presentation in which Dr. Deborah Clawson, Superintendent, Indiana Area School District and Mr. Richard Clawson, President, Indiana-Armstrong Builders Association were awarded honorary member of the National Technical Honor Society. Mr. Jim Thimons, ICTC Principal was the keynote speaker for the ceremony.
The ICTC chapter of NTHS will be sponsoring a Santa’s Adventure for the Children of the Indiana County Head Start on Wednesday, December 17, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the ICTC. The students have planned craft activities, pictures with Santa, story-telling and refreshments for the children and their parents.
On Friday, November 12, 2010 a group of Culinary Arts students participated in the Indiana Free Library’s “Evening in the Stacks”. The students participated by serving a light dinner, desserts and gourmet coffee. “Evening in the Stacks” is the library’s largest fundraiser. Those students participating were, Melanie Barr, Brittany Dillen, Brittany Harrington, Mariah Miller, Richelle Stewart and Kristina Wise. The students were accompanied by the instructor, Chef Dennis Gehly and instructional assistant, Chef Victoria Leatherwood.
