ICTC STUDENTS SHOW OFF THEIR TALENT

(April 1, 2011)...Once again, students from the Indiana County Technology Center’s (ICTC) Digital Media Technology (DMT) and Graphics and Electronic Media (GEM) program areas successfully competed in the annual Regional Pennsylvania Computer Fair.  The regional competition was held on Wednesday, March 9 at the Hadley Union Building on Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) campus.  The computer fair is an annual event that highlights Pennsylvania high school students' application skills and computer knowledge.

Students from the ICTC have been working diligently for weeks on their projects and this was an opportunity to showcase their hard work and effort. This level of enthusiasm is what makes the Pennsylvania Computer Fair so interesting. Students from all of Indiana County gather to compete and through the process, enjoy a further sense of fellowship among their peers. Projects at the computer fair demonstrate the wide range of creative talents through technology.

Participating in the regional computer fair this year were, from Digital Media Technology winning second place in Digital Movie were Jenna Letham, and Autumn Patterson.  Jenna and Autumn produced a movie on organ and tissue donation awareness.  Also competing in Digital Movie were Kelly Haase and Steven Sensebaugh.  Their movie for DMT tours took first place.  Placing second in Information Web Page were Kayla Hancock and Megan Empfield.  Kayla Ratay and Cortnee Deyarmin placed first in Information Web Page with their ICTC media page.

Graphics and Electronic Media also had many winners.  Third place for Desktop Publishing was Alison Greenwald.  Placing first in Desktop Publishing was Tiffany Weston and Brandi Stiles.  Mariah Decker took first place for her entry in Graphic Design.  Graphics and Electronic Media also had six students compete in the Computer Fair Logo competition.  Third place went to Laken Shirley, Chris Letterle took second place and Raymond Winkelman placed first.  Also participating in the computer fair logo competition were Aaron Buckley, Garrett Vindish and Pierce Valentin.

When asked about competing at the computer fair, Brandi Stiles stated “it was very fun and it was awesome when the judges announced that Tiffany Weston and I won first place.  I can’t wait until state competition.”  Mariah Decker added “it was a new experience for me because I never had an opportunity to do something so challenging and emotional at the same time.  I am glad that I participated and now I am headed to state competition.”

Not only does this day include a competition and a chance to learn new concepts by way of demonstrations and workshops, but it also exposes students to peer review and networking opportunities.

Students who placed first at regional competition will have the chance to compete at the state level on May 24 at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.  Best of luck to all of the participants.
