Opportunity for success in the carpentry field is driven by knowledge and ability, enhanced
by focused education and training. Students possessing creativity, independence,
motivation, pride and enthusiasm for learning may want to explore carpentry as
their career.
Carpentry-related theory and skills are taught using a competency-based instructional
framework requiring students to demonstrate their ability to safely perform specific jobrelated
tasks in order to prepare for the carpentry job market. Students receive instruction
in all phases of residential carpentry beginning with design and layout and working
through the final stages of interior and exterior finishing and trim installations. Students
gain the entry-level foundation skills to enter either immediate employment or postsecondary
training which allows them to choose from a variety of other carpentry-related
fields. |

Rapid advancement in technology impacts carpentry through improved tools, equipment
and materials available. CARP students will become proficient in the use of the many
new techniques, tools and equipment available in today’s technological society. Field
trips, on-site project experiences and repeated training in primary skill areas will prepare
students for the career of a lifetime.
